The Rotary Club of Parkes and Rotary District 9700 are once again seeking eligible people for the Rotary Foundation’s Group Study Exchange (GSE.)
The GSE Program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for four to six young business and professional men and women aged from 25 to 40 who are in the early stages of their chosen careers.
These programs are led by an experienced Rotarian who accompanies the group to the chosen country and assists to coordinate most of the travel and activities.
The group is away for approximately four weeks and the cost of the return airfares are paid for by the Rotary Foundation.
Once the group has reached its destination local Rotarians provide meals accommodation and group travel within their district.
Out of pocket expenses are the participant’s own responsibility.
Parkes Rotary Club GSE Coordinator Mike Richardson said, “Individuals who participate in this once-in-a-lifetime experience will be rewarded with a greater understanding and appreciation and have a broadened perspective of a nation’s history, language, commerce and government.”
The next GSE exchange is to South Korea commencing on 9 November, 2009 until 7 December, 2009.
The Parkes Club is seeking applications from interested and eligible men and women by 17 July, 2009.
When asked why the lead time was so long Mike said, “Successful participants will be required to participate in orientation sessions and group meetings and obtain the necessary documents for travel.
‘It also gives them time to learn something of the language and customs of South Korea although we are informed that most of the study tour will be in English.
‘Having these tools makes the trip just so much more worthwhile.”
During the exchange, teams will visit local businesses, government offices and community organizations in the host district, tour cultural and historic sites and stay with Rotarian host families.
They will also be asked to make presentations about their home country and professions.
Participant’s local Rotary clubs will help with orientation and cultural preparation. This may include language and presentation training.
The selection process is rigorous and thorough to ensure that those selected are true ambassadors of our region.
