As a result, the fish in the pond have died.
Council is hoping to have the problem solved within a month.
Local residents brought the matter to the attention of the Champion Post this week.
Director of Operations, Steve Barry said yesterday the problem in keeping the fish alive had been present for a couple of months.
‘We’re not real sure why this has suddenly become such a worry, it has certainly only been this year.
‘It apparently stems from algae and we are looking at installing an aerator in the hope it will solve it.
‘The situation has been bad in the past couple of days as staff were involved with a union picnic day on Monday, and then there was the general rostered day off on Tuesday.
‘The situation was made worse as it coincided with some pretty hot days,’ Mr Barry said.
‘Only this week we received designs from the experts so we can start rectifying the problem.
‘We will clean the pond out and put in an aerator which should solve the algae worry and provide a much longer life for the fish,’ Mr Barry concluded.
