NAIDOC celebrations will be launched in Parkes this Sunday and the NAIDOC Planning Group would like to invite the whole community to participate in a town procession on Sunday beginning at 10.30am.
The procession will gather from 10am in the carpark near the Post Office and at 10.30am participants will walk along Welcome Street, continue along Clarinda Street and circle Cooke Park.
The planning group then invite the community of Parkes to attend the launch of Parkes NAIDOC Week at Cooke Park.
The launch will include speeches, Aboriginal dancers, flag raising and the announcement of the Parkes NAIDOC 2008 Annette Sloane Indigenous Youth of the Year Award and the Parkes NAIDOC 2008 Indigenous Person of the Year Award.
The launch will then conclude with a free barbecue for everyone.
Other events during the Parkes NAIDOC Week celebrations (from 29 June to Wednesday, 2 July) include an Aboriginal Art Display in the Coventry Room from Monday, 30 June, through to Wednesday, 2 July.
There will also be a Careers and Community Services Expo held at Parkes High School on Tuesday, 1 July.
Each event planned by the Parkes NAIDOC planning group celebrates Indigenous culture and language, as well as the contribution of Indigenous people to contemporary Australia.
