Making a difference in education through visible learning and visible leadership was the main theme at a gathering of leaders in education in Forbes this week. Local principals Carolyn Matthews and Denise Gersbach attended the dynamic five-day Conference with principals from the Wilcannia-Forbes Diocese.
With the learning of their students utmost in their minds, principals from the 18 Diocesan schools attended the week-long conference in Forbes from November 9 to 13 to ensure they are abreast of current educational directions.
The principals participated in an Educational Support Program facilitated by Dr Michelle Mulvihill, Leadership Development Specialist. Dr Mulvihill facilitates professional learning and support networks across a variety of educational systems in Australia. Principals also focused on setting targets for continued student achievement.
Dr Mulvihill quoted John Hattie, Education researcher, “We need a deeper representation of excellence in teachers, a greater challenge and commitment to recognising excellence.”
Miss Matthews, Principal of St Laurence’s School Forbes said “as educators we need to be continually raising the bar on student achievement”.
Mrs Gersbach, Principal of Holy Family School Parkes saidd, “success builds success and we will ensure our students experience success.”
Staff members constantly seek to raise the bar both professionally and for their students. Opportunities at both schools will be provided to engage students in 21st century learning.
