The launch took place during the Sustainable Futures Day in Parkes.
The program is designed to help residents within a 100km radius of Parkes get access to affordable domestic solar panels by combining their purchasing power and achieving the best bulk price possible.
With adequate interest in the program, Parkes Shire Council will coordinate the bulk purchase and installation program.
“With rising electricity costs, installing solar panels will provide a significant financial and environmental benefit to our community,” Mr Kent Boyd (General Manager, Parkes Shire Council) said.
“We have received a lot of interest already in the scheme.
“It is a great opportunity to achieve a substantial saving on purchasing solar power panels.”
Residents interested in the program are asked to complete an expression of interest form which is available at the Parkes Shire Council Administration building or online at www.parkes.nsw.gov.au.
The needs of the community are then assessed, a tender request issued and installation arranged with residents.
The closing date for expressions of interest is Friday, June 29, 2012.
