NAIDOC celebrations are underway in Parkes following yesterday’s official launch in Cooke Park.
In celebrating the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NAIDOC Week, an Aboriginal art display opens today in the Parkes Shire Council Coventry Room.
Doors to the exhibition will open at 10am and the display will be on view to the general public until 5pm Wednesday.
A wide range of artwork will be on display including art from local Aboriginal artists and school children of all ages.
The art display is being curated by local artist Sean Cassidy.
Committee member of the Parkes NAIDOC Planning group, Lionel Bloomfield said that the Aboriginal art display was a great way to showcase local talent.
`We hope that the Parkes community enjoy the art display and recognise and appreciate the talented artists that we have in the Parkes area and recognise their achievements,’ Mr Bloomfield said.
Wednesday’s programme will be highlighted by a Careers and Community Services Expo in the L P Johnston Hall at Parkes High School.
The Expo will highlight career opportunities and support networks for Aboriginal youth and community members.
Doors to the L P Johnson Hall will open at 10am and the Expo will conclude at 1.30pm
