Lucky escape for occupants

06 Nov, 2009 07:54 AM
Three residents of this Best Street home are fortunate to be alive after escaping from the burning residence early Wednesday morning.

And they have a passing motorist to thank. He stopped to alert the man and two women who were asleep in the lounge-room of the blazing home.

The man then proceeded to assist all three by helping them climb out a window.

Police, fire brigade and ambulance officers attended the scene at 5.20am. On arrival they discovered the loungeroom section well alight.

Fortunately they were able to bring the fire under control but not before it had caused severe damage to the lounge room, its contents and heat and smoke damage to other areas of the home.

Ambulance officers treated one of the women for smoke inhalation.

Detectives and Crime Scene police attended and are continuing their investigations into the possible cause of the fire.

Fire brigade officers were called to the scene again Wednesday afternoon after the fire reignited (see picture above). It was quickly brought under control.
