Peak Hill Central School and Parkes High School are among the big district winners in the latest round of funding from the Commonwealth Government’s Building and Education Revolution.
Peak Hill central will get $1,969,108 for a new science centre while Parkes high gets $920,000 for a new language centre.
They are among 118 public schools across the state who between secured approximately $150 million for infrastructure work.
Labor Duty MLC for Dubbo, Eddie Obeid announced late last week that seven local schools had received more than $8.5M funding for the establishment of new science and language centres.
“The Rudd Government’s $1 billion Science and Language Centres for the 21st Century Schools programme fits well with the focus of both state and federal governments on skilling our kids for the contemporary workforce,” Mr Obeid said.
Mr Obeid said that the sustained spending in education throughout the electorate this year is vital for supporting rural families in the current economic climate.
“This massive spending package shows that labor governments support education in rural areas which helps people up-skill and be job-ready – essential for the current economic climate.”
Premier Nathan Rees said public schools in NSW are benefiting from approximately $3.2 billion worth of projects through the Australian government’s unprecedented $14.7 billion Building the Education Revolution.
“State-wide we are implementing the largest capital works and maintenance project ever undertaken,” Mr Rees said.
“This programme is providing desperately needed jobs in every community in the country.
“I know local builders will be especially pleased to hear that these schools have received funding.”
Minister for education and Training, Verity Firth, said this is a great investment in the future of NSW education.
“This complements the NSW Government’s Building Better Schools Programme,” Ms Firth said.
