Forbes High School was host to more than 30 school principals lastweek for the Lachlan Principals Meeting.
Held each term, the meeting sees principals from all government schools in the Lachlan area including primary, central and secondary schools, converge to discuss a variety of topics, updates on new policies and current trends.
Lachlan School Education Director, Denis Armstrong, joined NSW Teachers Federation regional organiser Noel Creenaune, iTeach21 Centre representative from Dubbo, Meg Parsons, Student Service Coordinator Ros Christian of Orange and Parkes Office Manager for DoCS, Michael Byrnes, in speaking with teachers.
Forbes High principal Craig Petersen said the meeting was a great way to showcase the local high school.
‘These meetings are usually held at a function centre but I think Forbes High was specifically chosen [to host] this time due to the access we have to technology,’ Mr Petersen said.
‘And also, we are fast developing a reputation as being willing to become involved and take a leadership role in terms of training – we are always one of the first to put our hands up to get in and have a go, so it was a pretty big deal for us.’
The High School’s hospitality classes catered for the day, showcasing their culinary talents while school leaders were also on hand to provide guests with a tour of the school grounds.
‘It was a successful, productive day,’ Mr Petersen said.
‘And it really is an important event, even though we [principals] work with up to 50 teachers, we can often be isolated and it is really important to have that contact with colleagues of the same level.’
