Put on your garden gloves and head on down to Harrison Park or Lions Park this Sunday – yes, it is that time again where millions of volunteers around the country set out on a mission to clean-up Australia.
McDonald’s has been sponsoring Clean Up Australia Day since day one when it first began in 1990 and they would like to invite the whole public to join them down at Harrison Park at 8.30am on Sunday.
The team will be cleaning-up Harrison Park, along Eugowra Road as well as Billabong Creek.
Participants can register at the canteen at Harrison Park or on-line at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au.
Parkes Shire Council has also joined forces with Clean Up Australia Chairman Ian Kiernan AO in an effort to make Clean Up Australia Day, which celebrates its 20th national anniversary on March 7, its biggest event yet by calling for Parkes Shire residents to get involved.
It is a remarkable 20 years since Ian Kiernan AO, founder of Clean Up Australia Day, launched
the event around Australia urging people to make a difference by cleaning up their local areas for a couple of hours.
Since then, his simple idea has evolved to be Australia’s largest community-based environmental event.
In 2009 alone, almost 630,000 volunteers participated and 7000 sites were registered for Clean Up Australia Day.
Parkes Shire Council has also organised a local registration site for Clean Up Australia Day at Lions Park, Orange Road.
Council staff will commence Clean Up Australia Day at 8am.
You can either register your own site or simply turn up at Lions Park on the day with gloves, a hat, sturdy shoes, sunglasses and sunscreen and register as a volunteer.
Bags are provided, along with a sausage sizzle afterwards in Lions Park.
