Gardens to open Sunday

10 Oct, 2008 08:08 AM
Garden lovers throughout the shire have the opportunity this Sunday to inspect eight of Parkes’ best gardens.

It is part of the Parkes Garden Club’s open day with proceeds to go to the Bush Fire Brigade.

The Garden Club is also supporting the Parkes Pony Club who lost 12 months with the EI shutdown.

The Pony Club will be providing morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea in the gardens of Fay and Kelvie Blackstock (Lorking Street), and Leah and Geoff Smith (698 Thomas Street).

Those wishing to visit the gardens can secure tickets today and tomorrow from Greenparkes Garden Centre or the Pink Orchid Café de Flowers. Tickets are $10 to all eight gardens.

On Sunday, tickets can also be obtained from Greenparkes or at the garden of Racheal and Jason Baxter in 13 Webb Street.

The eight gardens open for inspection are:

* 13 Webb Street: Racheal and Jason Baxter – a newly established garden with a cottage theme.

* Lorking Street: Fay and Kelvie Blackstock – large cottage garden with Kelvie’s metal creations featuring throughout this garden with lots of things to admire.

Food and refreshments available.

* Hedgerow Avenue: Elsie and Henry Mahon – entrance through vacant block in Daley Street. This garden has several different gardens combined into one.

* The Welcome: Betty and Frank Guise – ask for directions to this garden from garden 1 Webb Street. This garden is as pretty as a picture, a labour of love. A giant plant stall and monster raffle will also be available at this site.

* 25 Woodward Street: Kath and Dell Baxter. This garden is like being in the middle of a flower patch.

* Jack Birch Road: Bonnie and Ken McConnell - this is a very drought tolerant garden with beautiful Irises. Music will be provided in this garden by Lindsay Morehouse.

* 18 Lawson Street: Don and Jenny Jewell - owners of Greenparkes Garden Centre . This garden is sure to delight.

* 698 Thomas Street: Leah and Geoff Smith - this garden is four years old and is a work in progress – very pretty. Food/refreshments available at this garden.

All gardens will be open from 9.30am to 5pm.
