‘Cowardly’ attack on disabled young man

Police have described as ‘cowardly’ an attack on a wheelchair-bound male on Wednesday afternoon in which a teenager stole an iPhone from his 20-year-old victim.

The incident occurred about 3.45pm in Clarinda Street outside the Swan Café and police are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the theft to phone them on 6862 9977.

The victim told police of being approached by a young male who grabbed the iPhone – valued at $800 - from the tray of his wheelchair before then running off.

In an interview with police he described the thief as being about 17 years old and wearing a white-hooded jumper. The offender was last seen running down a nearby laneway.

Police are continuing their investigations into two separate thefts from on RTA worksite at Tichborne.

The area was first targeted overnight on Monday when thieves forced open a lock of a fenced-off area before breaking into a portable building and later a container.

The thieves made off with a refrigerator, microwave oven, three UHF radios, a generator and three cans of fuel.

They also stole a further 420 litres of fuel from two heavy machines.

The area was again targeted on Tuesday night and 300 litres of diesel was stolen from the RTA equipment.

All-up, the theft is estimated in excess of $3000.

Police are continuing with their investigations into a break-and-enter at a Dalton Street residence last weekend.

The owner told police of returning home on Tuesday afternoon to discover a 107cm LCD television stolen and another 100cm television damaged and left behind, after attempts had also been made to steal it.

Entry to the home was gained by the offender/s forcing open a window.

Police are following a number of leads including the sighting of a male on the property at about 2.45pm, on Monday.

He is described as about 180 centimetres tall and of slim build. He was wearing shorts, a long sleeve shirt, white sneakers and a cap.
